We are seeking work health and safety professionals to join a federal Agency in Canberra.
This is more than a compliance role—it’s about ensuring national safety initiatives, influencing cross-agency collaboration, and building a culture where health and wellbeing are deeply embedded in how we work.
You will work independently under broad direction. You'll provide high-level reporting and advice to senior leadership and play a key role in shaping safety culture across the Agency and its partners.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight of the Agency’s WHS program, ensuring legislative compliance and a strong culture of safety and wellbeing.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders, internal teams, and external partners to embed WHS principles into planning, operations, and project delivery.
- ensure processes are rigorously followed by staff, in keeping with the WHS Act and regulations, other codes and standards that support a safe workplace
- Identify and respond to emerging safety risks and trends, briefing senior leaders on significant issues and recommended interventions.
- Lead the design, delivery and governance of WHS training, audits, and reporting across the Agency and with stakeholders.
- Represent the Agency in cross-government forums and negotiations, advocating for safe, inclusive, and culturally appropriate practices.
- Oversee branch risk and quality assurance plans using whole-of-government frameworks, ensuring the continuous improvement of safety policy and practice.

- Drive Strategic WHS Initiatives: Oversee the development and implementation of Agency-wide safety programs, audits, training, and reporting.
- Advise and Influence: Provide expert guidance on WHS practices, influencing both policy and operational decision-making at senior levels.
- Collaborate with Purpose: Engage meaningfully with internal and external stakeholders to promote safe and sustainable workplace practices.
- Deliver Results: Plan, execute and review WHS-related projects and team workflows, ensuring delivery against key performance indicators.
- Strong working knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, and risk management.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and build high-performing teams.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and strategic problem-solving.
