Project Manager, Financial Management Improvement (FMI) Project
Job description
We are currently seeking a Project Manager to join a critical Queensland department to lead the Financial Management Improvement project to drive uplift of financial management processes to achieve greater accuracy and transparency across financial operations.

- Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and governance
- Apply fit-for-purpose principles to ensure project management artefacts are practical and usable in ISD’s low-maturity environment.
- Use the prescribed PFMI Program PMO services (standards, templates, reporting, and assurance processes) to ensure consistency and alignment across the program.
- Provide leadership to and coordinate the activities of the Financial Management Improvement (FMI) project team.
- Manage the project within its financial and non-financial constraints and report progress to the Executive Management Team.
- Proactively identify, document, and manage project risks, issues, and
- Work with workstream leads to develop mitigation strategies, escalating critical risks as appropriate to maintain momentum.

- Develop high-quality project status reports, dashboards, and updates for senior stakeholders, including Executives and the Board.
- Ensure reporting bridges ISD’s current inconsistent practices with the high standards required for financial reform projects.
- Manage change requests, ensuring deviations from the plan are assessed, approved, and communicated effectively.

- Support development of project management tools, templates, and practices that can be sustained beyond the project.
- Ensure effective change management practices are embedded in delivery, working closely with the Organisational Change Manager (OCM).

- Excels in stakeholder engagement, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, effective conflict resolution, and the ability to influence at all levels.
- Whilst not mandatory, a relevant tertiary qualification would be well regarded (e.g. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, project management, or a related field).
- Professional certifications such as PRINCE2 Foundation/Practitioner, AgilePM, or equivalent would be considered advantageous.
