Job description

I am partnering with a Queensland Government agency to recruit an experienced PowerBI Developer to design and deliver high-quality dashboards and reports that provide clear, actionable insights to support decision-making.

This is a hands-on contract role working closely with data professionals and business stakeholders to translate complex data into intuitive, user-friendly visualisations. You will play a key role in strengthening reporting and analytics capability across the organisation.

The initial contract runs through to 30 June 2026, with a strong potential for extension.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop interactive Power BI dashboards and reports aligned to data and analytics standards
Build and optimise semantic models and datasets to support effective reporting
Apply best-practice data visualisation principles to communicate insights clearly
Produce clear technical documentation covering data sources, measures and calculations
Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and refine solutions based on stakeholder feedback
Train and support business users in the effective use of Power BI reports and dashboards

Skills & Experience

Essential:

Proven experience developing Power BI dashboards and reports
Strong skills in SQL, DAX and Power Query
Solid understanding of data visualisation best practice
Experience building and managing semantic models
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Understanding of data governance principles

Desirable:

Experience with medallion architecture (or equivalent data layering approaches)
Exposure to CI/CD and DevOps practices
Knowledge of Azure Databricks or cloud data platforms
Experience working in insurance, financial services or highly regulated environments
