About the role
An exciting opportunity exists to join an education market leader in the business engagement team as a Payroll Specialist, supporting the ongoing operation and development of their enterprise payroll solution – aPay (Ascender).
You will play a key role in payroll system administration, issue investigation and resolution, enhancements, releases, and integration across their HR ecosystem, including SAP SuccessFactors, Strato, and WorkforceX.
Working closely with the Team Leader and a dynamic team, you’ll partner with stakeholders and vendors to ensure payroll services run smoothly while also contributing to continuous improvement and innovation.

What you’ll be doing
- Administer and configure aPay (Ascender) modules, including customisations, integrations, and reporting.
- Manage user requests via the Service Desk, ensuring effective triaging and resolution.
- Monitor system performance and data integrity, recommending improvements where required.
- Drive payroll system upgrades, patch releases, performance tuning, and testing.
- Partner with business stakeholders and SMEs to deliver initiatives and enhance system capability.
- Support change management, adoption of new technologies, and development of best practice guidelines.
- Act as a product specialist, collaborating with vendors and supporting business outcomes.
- Knowledge in aPay (Ascender) or other enterprise payroll systems.
- Sound knowledge of payroll processes and best practice.
- Understanding of database design, system configuration, and integration.
- Experience across business analysis, release management, and change management.
- Sound communication skills with the resilience to thrive in a diverse and collaborative team.

- Based in Brisbane office, with flexibility to work from home up to 2 days per week
