The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to take ownership of end-to-end payroll operations while also leading payroll optimisation and improvement initiatives.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll manage BAU payroll delivery with a team of 3 payroll professionals, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and great service, while also driving system, process, and control improvements to support a growing organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end payroll process
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of 3 payroll staff
• Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time across pay cycles
• Maintain compliance with legislation, awards, EBA’s, superannuation, PAYG, and payroll tax
• Act as the escalation point for complex payroll queries
• Partner with HR, Finance, and external providers as required
• Lead payroll optimisation projects, including:
  
  • Process improvement and standardisation
  • System enhancements or upgrades
  • Automation and control improvements
  • Payroll reporting and data integrity initiatives
• Support audits and year-end payroll activities

About you

• Proven experience as a Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll Lead
• Strong hands-on payroll processing background (this is not a purely strategic role)
• Demonstrated experience managing payroll teams
• Experience leading payroll improvement or optimisation projects
• Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance
• Confident working with payroll systems and HRIS platforms
• High attention to detail with a continuous improvement mindset
• Clear communicator who can balance BAU delivery with project work
