Manager Corporate Affairs & Stakeholder Engagement

Job description

Troocoo is proud to be partnering with The Port of Townsville in their search for a Manager Corporate Affairs & Stakeholder Engagement.

About the Port
The Port of Townsville Limited (the Port) has been actively shaping the future of Townsville and North Queensland for 160 years.

Today, we are Australia’s largest port for zinc, lead, copper, sugar and fertiliser. Additionally, we handle more motor vehicles and containerised goods than any other port in Northern Australia. The goods that flow through our ports are grown, mined, manufactured and used to better the lives of more than 800,000 people across a vast catchment area, spanning from Hinchinbrook to the Burdekin and west to Mount Isa.

On average, more than 8 million tonnes of goods, worth more than $10 billion, cross our wharves each year. Thanks to our customers, we are one of the country’s most diverse ports, linking more than 30 different commodities to 130 ports in 44 countries.

The Townsville port is also an increasingly strategic forward mounting location in Australia’s Defence capabilities, as well as an important tourism enabler due to its modern dedicated cruise ship terminal.

About the role:
This senior role is responsible for leading the Port’s strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, and reputation management. Reporting to the GM Corporate Services and working closely with the executive team, you will develop and implement strategies to ensure the Port’s objectives are clearly communicated and supported across government, industry, community, and internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:
  • Lead a high-performing corporate affairs team, providing direction, support, and development to achieve operational and strategic goals.
  • Develop and implement corporate communications and stakeholder engagement strategies aligned to the Port’s objectives, including internal and external messaging, media releases, speeches, presentations, and reports.
  • Ensure consistent brand messaging across all channels, manage crisis communications, and lead community engagement, including feedback, sentiment, and local sensitivities.
  • Plan and deliver stakeholder engagement strategies for major projects, policy changes, and operational impacts, maintaining strong relationships with government, regulators, industry, investors, and community stakeholders.
  • Manage digital platforms, marketing campaigns, and corporate reporting, including stakeholder maps and engagement plans, to support organisational and commercial priorities.
  • Represent the Port externally at meetings, events, and forums while ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, quality, and information security requirements.
About you:
You are a senior corporate affairs or communications professional with strong strategic capability and confidence to operate in a complex, highly regulated environment.

You will bring:
  • Significant experience in corporate affairs, strategic communications, and stakeholder engagement, with a proven track record in infrastructure, energy, mining, or similar sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing a team, driving outcomes, and building capability.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, strategic messaging and manage diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level messaging, and strong analytical and problem-solving capability with a strategic, data-informed approach.
  • Relevant qualifications including a bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, Marketing, or related field, and a Maritime Security Identification Card (or ability to obtain prior to commencement).
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, governance, and industry best practice, with confidence operating in complex, highly regulated environments.
