Role Purpose:
The Employee Relations Specialist plays a pivotal role in providing expert advice and guidance to the People & Culture Division and the Group concerning employee relations (ER) and workplace health & safety (WHS) matters. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting the implementation of the Group’s ER and WHS strategies, while contributing to the overall success and well-being of the organisation.

As this is a pivotal position focused on building strategic alliances and partnerships both within and outside the organization. It's about driving integration, innovation, and continuous improvement while maintaining cost control. You’ll have worked in a similar environment and have a passion for delivering exceptional employee relations outcomes. You will have a deep understanding of employment and workplace health and safety legislation as well as strong communication skills, stakeholder engagement, team collaboration, and an outcomes-oriented approach. This role is instrumental in shaping the organisations ER and WHS strategies. The Employee Relations Specialist plays a pivotal role in providing expert advice and guidance to the People & Culture Division and the Group concerning employee relations (ER) and workplace health & safety (WHS) matters. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting the implementation of the Group’s ER and WHS strategies, while contributing to the overall success and well-being of the organisation.
Key Accountabilities:
- Lead the provision of support and guidance to HR and the business on complex ER issues, including performance management, disciplinary matters, injury and illness cases, long-term absences, restructuring, terminations, disputes, complaints, and investigations.
- Develop practical solutions to complex queries by leveraging your comprehensive understanding of employment law, operational priorities, and effective people management.
- Conduct internal investigations and/or collaborate with external providers when needed.
- Collaborate with legal counsel as required.
- Represent the Group in tribunals and at the Fair Work Commission.
- Analyze and identify trends and patterns in ER issues to guide continuous improvement efforts.
- Conduct legal research into contemporary and evolving ER issues, proactively anticipating changes in legislation that may impact the Group.
- Design and deliver ER training programs for HR professionals and business leaders.
- Manage relationships with third parties, including unions, to align with the Group’s operational and strategic objectives.
- Play a central role in leading the negotiation and implementation of Enterprise Agreements and provide advice to People and culture teams and the business to ensure compliance and consistent application of the Enterprise Agreement.
- Assist in the design, development, and implementation of People and culture policies and procedures, ensuring they align with best practices and employment law.
- Promote consistency in People and culture practices, facilitate the transfer of People and culture knowledge, and advocate for the Australian Retirement Trust People & Culture model.
- Develop and nurture strong working relationships with all teams within the People & Culture Division, particularly with the People & Culture Business Partnering team.
- Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the team and business unit in achieving Group objectives, including modeling the organization's values, providing support to team members as required, and undertaking other assigned responsibilities and activities.
