The Opportunity
Reporting to the Safety Risk & Governance Executive, the Director, Work Health & Safety – Archdiocesan Services will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of WHS across the Archdiocese. This includes setting the WHS strategy, driving a values-based safety culture, ensuring compliance with legislative obligations, and leading a multidisciplinary WHS team to deliver expert advisory, audit, and injury management services.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver a three-year WHS Strategy aligned to organisational goals and values.
- Champion the development of a proactive & collaborative safety culture across all agencies and parishes.
- Oversee the WHS Management System, compliance frameworks, and audit programs.
- Lead risk management, psychosocial safety strategies, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
- Manage Workers’ Compensation claims, return-to-work programs, and regulatory reporting.
- Build WHS capability across senior leaders through training, advice, and governance support.
- Lead, coach, and develop the WHS Manager, Advisors, and Injury Management team.
You are a proven senior WHS leader with the ability to operate strategically and influence safety in large, complex organisations. You will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in WHS, occupational health, or related discipline (postgraduate desirable).
- Expert knowledge of WHS legislation, systems, and governance.
- Experience in WHS auditing, risk management, psychosocial risk, and injury management.
- Demonstrated success in leading teams and building organisational WHS capability.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing, and communication skills.
