I am partnering with a Queensland Government agency to recruit an experienced Data Governance Specialist to lead the establishment and implementation of data governance practices across the organisation.

This role will play a critical part in defining data ownership, formalising governance policies and procedures, and embedding data governance principles into both business operations and technical solutions. You will work closely with data professionals and business stakeholders to ensure data quality, integrity and compliance across the enterprise.

The contract runs through to 30 June 2026, with a strong potential for extension.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and formalise a comprehensive data governance policy and procedures
• Establish and embed data ownership and accountability across the organisation
• Onboard and train key roles including Data Stewards, Data Custodians and stakeholders
• Ensure compliance with data governance standards covering data quality, lineage and integrity
• Create clear documentation and training materials to support governance adoption
• Collaborate with technical teams to ensure governance principles are embedded in data solutions

Skills & Experience

Essential:

• Proven experience designing and implementing data governance frameworks, policies and procedures
• Strong understanding of data governance principles including data quality, lineage and integrity
• Experience onboarding and training data governance roles
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience working in highly regulated environments (e.g. insurance, financial services, government)

Desirable:

• Familiarity with medallion architecture or equivalent data layering approaches
• Exposure to Azure Databricks or cloud data platforms
