Troocoo are supporting a key Queensland Government client with the recruitment of a PO4 Senior Environmental Officer to support the delivery of the Gateway Motorway and Bruce Highway Upgrade (GMBHU) program.

This role sits within a complex, fast-paced project environment and will suit an experienced environmental professional who thrives across multiple workstreams, with strong expertise in environmental approvals, compliance and major infrastructure delivery.

The Role
As the PO4 Senior Environmental Officer you will deliver dedicated environmental support across the Gateway to Bruce Upgrades (G2BU), managing multiple concurrent workstreams and supporting approvals, compliance and environmental risk mitigation.

This is a site-based role, working closely with engineers, project teams, consultants and regulators to ensure environmental obligations are met and project milestones are achieved.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide environmental and technical support aligned with State and Commonwealth legislation (including EPBC Act).
  • Coordinate and contribute to EPBC referrals, assessments and supporting documentation.
  • Review environmental approvals, permits, management plans and technical reports.
  • Support contaminated material management and environmental compliance (including PFAS considerations).
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with environmental standards.
  • Assist with environmental offset management and Infrastructure Sustainability (ISC) reporting.
  • Engage with stakeholders, consultants and regulatory bodies to align approvals with project timelines.
  • Identify and manage environmental risks, implementing practical, solution-focused outcomes.
About You
To be considered for the the PO4 Senior Environmental Officer position, you must demonstrate the following:
  • A Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management, Cultural Heritage or similar.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in infrastructure or major project environments (road projects highly regarded).
  • Strong knowledge of environmental approvals and legislative frameworks (EPBC experience highly desirable).
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities across complex projects.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
Highly regarded:
  • Experience on major transport infrastructure projects
  • Infrastructure Sustainability Accredited Professional (ISAP)
