Troocoo is proud to be partnering with Business Chamber Queensland in the search for an experienced and driven Media Relations and Communications Manager to lead their external communications function and manage key media relationships across Queensland.

About the Role:
As the Media Relations and Communications Manager, you will lead Business Chamber Queensland's media presence and external communications strategy. You will manage proactive and reactive media relationships, oversee communications output, and play a key role in shaping the Chamber's public voice. You will also ensure the Chamber's advocacy positions are communicated clearly and effectively to all key stakeholders, including government.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute a proactive media strategy that strengthens the Chamber's profile and positions it as the authoritative voice for Queensland business.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets across print, digital, broadcast, and radio.
  • Draft and distribute media releases, statements, and responses to media enquiries with speed and accuracy including high-profile issues such as industry crises, policy announcements, and state and national advocacy.
  • Manage proactive media outreach to journalists and coordinating interview opportunities such as radio appearances.
  • Write and edit executive communications including speeches, op-eds, and talking points for the Chamber's senior leadership.
  • Monitor the media landscape and provide timely intelligence and reporting to senior stakeholders.
  • Support government relations activity by ensuring advocacy messaging is clear, consistent, and effectively communicated externally.
About You:
  • Tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related discipline.
  • Recent background in journalism is highly regarded, you know how to tell a story, understand what makes news, and can write with clarity and impact under pressure.
  • At least six years' experience in media relations, communications, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to translate complex issues into accessible, compelling language for diverse audiences.
  • Strong existing relationships with Queensland media and a track record of proactive media engagement.
  • Experience drafting executive-level communications including speeches, media releases, and government-facing correspondence.
  • Confident managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, with strong attention to detail.
