About the role:

As Cancer Council Queensland continue to support Queenslanders in need every day, they are now seeking to appoint a Manager, Public Relations to drive the brand in a leadership role. As the Manager, Public Relations you will be responsible for providing leadership to Cancer Council Queensland’s public relations and social media portfolio to achieve organisational goals and deliver on strategic objectives.
  
Key responsibilities include:
  • Leadership and strategic direction of all public relations (PR) and media initiatives to advance CCQ’s brand identity and broaden awareness of its programs and priorities.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to the team to deliver on objectives and realise opportunities.
  • Prepare media advice, strategic plans and operational reports to promote program- specific objectives and the strategic priorities of the organisation.
  • Develop and implement public relations, media, campaigns and events in collaboration with Senior Manager, Marketing and Communication and relevant teams and confirm key messaging for all associated public relations and media activity.
  • Manage press conferences and major media initiatives and launches, including responsibility for the delivery of high quality media releases, press kits and photo or vision opportunities.
  • Maintain and develop CCQ’s relationships with statewide contacts in the media industry and develop relationships with media campaign supporters, including volunteers and fundraisers.
  • Collaborate with other Cancer Councils to develop and implement program-specific media campaigns and events.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of PR and social media campaigns, making recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communication teams and all business areas of CCQ to develop PR and organic social media plans and activations that promote program-specific objectives and the strategic priorities of the organisation.
  • Manage the implementation of organic social media activities and development of key messaging for organic social media activity.  
About you: 
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a media, PR or journalism environment and two years in the use of social media platforms in a professional environment
  • Tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications or PR
  • Well-developed skills and experience managing media events.
  • Well-developed public speaking and presentation skills. Computer literacy with MS Office Suite and Adobe Suite of products.
  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and spoken, including the ability to write accurate and attention-grabbing media releases and social media content.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and motivate teams and individuals.
  • Demonstrated experience in media and PR campaign strategy development and implementation.
