About the Organisation

As the metropolitan race club in Queensland, the Brisbane Racing Club conducts 70+ race meetings and hosts over 200,000 patrons each year. Race meetings are conducted at the club’s two racecourses, Eagle Farm and Doomben. In addition to its iconic Winter Carnival, the Brisbane Racing Club also hosts many other feature racing events including The Gateway (December), Girls Day Out (February), Mekka Wednesday (August), Country Music Raceday (September) and Melbourne Cup Day (November). 
  
The Brisbane Racing Club launched a concept master plan in 2009. The $1.2 billion self-funded development includes property development joint ventures with Mirvac and Lendlease, a shopping centre, two Licensed Clubs,  upgrades to facilities at both Eagle Farm and Doomben racecourses as well as a Variety of commercial precincts.

Ranked one of the top 10 current property development projects in Brisbane, the primary focus of the master plan is to ensure the sustainability of Brisbane racing and create a world class entertainment precinct for Brisbane.
  
About the role:
  
Brisbane Racing Club (BRC) is preparing the organisation for a period of growth, innovation, and change and therefore the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will play an integral part in that growth. The CFO will provide both strategic and functional support to the Club, whilst leading the finance unit as well as being Company Secretary for the Club.
  
This pivotal executive role for the business will form part of BRC’s Leadership Team and will play an instrumental part in building key leadership capabilities as the organisation looks to grow its revenue over the next few years.
  
This appointment will support business units and functions to drive change, business optimisation, efficiencies and continuous improvement while aligning to the goals and values of the organisation.
  
Specifically, key accountabilities include:
  • Lead the finance, enterprise risk, IT & procurement functions and their associated teams.
  • Work with the CEO on formulating the strategic vision including fostering and cultivating stakeholder relationships as well as assisting in the development and negotiation of contracts.
  • Provide executive leadership, coaching and support to ensure it supports business objectives.
  • Support the implementation of current business improvement initiatives including process redesign and system upgrades and streamlining.
  • Assist the CEO in identifying new funding opportunities, the drafting of budgets and determining cost effectiveness of prospective delivery.
  • As a member of the ELT take responsibility for key management decisions to ensure the effective operations of Brisbane Racing Club.
  • Ensure alignment with Brisbane Racing Club’s cultural intent, values and strategic priorities.
  • Provide prudent and effective financial advice, systems and processes to the board and management.
  • Create a values-driven, safe employment environment that attracts, engages and retains skilled talent.
  • Attend Board and Subcommittee meetings; including the Finance and Governance Committee
  • Foster good working relationships with other race clubs
The Person:
  
This is a role that requires a strong influencer who can deliver strategic leadership to create an environment conducive to improving value through business optimisation, whilst working collaboratively with the ELT to manage both employee, stakeholder and customer expectations at a holistic level to boost overall service delivery, business growth and profitability.
  
You will be an exceptional people leader who can demonstrate extensive experience and a record of achievement in modernising a Finance function whilst at the CFO level. The CFO will need to have a proven track record in embedding clear strategic and operational frameworks across multiple divisions.
Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills are of paramount importance, combined with the ability to deliver organisational objectives. Your ability to engage others and embrace organisational change with a client service ethos is critical. 
  
The successful candidate will need to have completed or be prepared to complete the Directors Course at Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and also be CPA/CA qualified.
